Simon Says... Bon Jour Mes Amis! Comment allez-vous aujourd-hui? We hope you're doing as well as Simon Thorel, the French God of all Gods. Simon (call him Magic-Sim), 19, from Calais, France (which, he is quick to point out, faces Great Britain), has been gaming since he was just a wee ‘lil lad. "I started on an Amstrad CPC-464, in 1986 (I was 6), and then continued on to GX 4000, Sega Game Gear, Genesis.... until 1995 when I discovered the PC world with an antique 386 with 4 megs of mem (I bought it $100) on which I could install Win95 stably. After that, I upgraded to a Cyrix 6x86 P166+, but my gaming experience started really when I bought a PowerVR board. It wasn't fast enough, so soon afterward, I bought a Voodoo Graphics board.... and then the show was on. This year, I changed to a PII 400 128Mb, following with the smart Voodoo3 3000." On another note, when asked what its like to be French, Simon tells us, "Well, to be French, is to be French. In the morning, we go to the bakery to have our bread with our beret on the top of the head.... wow, I'm joking. It's quite fun, French people are always doing things differently than the others (but not as much as the English). I’m quite lucky to live in France. We have a lot of things: we have the good and diversified food (which everyone knows). We also have a lot of different countrysides, and much more. Facing the sea, Calais is a city that has a long history behind it: Middle Ages, 2nd world war, etc…" Simon, like so many of us gamers now, is enthralled in Unreal Tournament. He has been a big fan of deathmatch Unreal. To keep his interests a bit diverse, he also plays Need For Speed: High Stakes (using an FFB steering wheel). He was recently turned onto Nomad Soul (Omikron) from Quantic Dreams, he says, "mostly because of its Ambiance." When he’s not gazing hopelessly into a computer screen, Simon enjoys boating. He just acquired his Seas and Rivers license (we’re not quite sure what this is). He enjoys seeing his friends, and working at the local university. But Simon truly enjoys spending his weekends tweaking his computers and… FRAGGING! He’s a glutton for LAN parties. Oh yeah, and he loves making the police look silly in NFS:HS. You can find a little more about Simon at his Web site, http://magicsim.free.fr, and download a very fast NFS:HS car and some W-Files parodies. But beware, it's only in French. Bon Voyage. |
